Commanders Message

Comrades,

Hi, my name is Pete Ledoux and I have taken over as commander for Commander Harnadek who has resigned for personal reasons. I would like to thank Commander Harnadek for all her hard work in the past and hope she will stay active in the future. Also, we have been lacking participation both at our events and especially in filling our post officer positions. With nominations and elections coming up soon, I would like to ask any and all of our members, if you have any time to donate or any programs you would like to see instituted, please contact me. Since our last news letter, we have had several events, the Haunted House, Pearl Harbor Ceremonies and breakfast, the children's Christmas party, and our baseball banquet, I would like to thank all the people that worked so hard to make all these events a success.

Commander Pete Ledoux

Message From the Post Adjutant

From the Adjutant,

For those few who have noticed my absence over the past five months, simply stated "I'm Back". Work commitments over this period with its associated travel did not allow me to participate much in Post functions and meetings. If you have needed something from me or I've missed any of your requests please contact me. As always I encourage eveyone to visit our web site at http://www.hudsonpost48.org/ which although still a work in process continues to improve. In the coming months we will be working hard to provide even more information and Photo's to prove the Post and its members are having a good time. Check it out!!

Mike Glenn, Adjutant

A note to the Legion

Legion,

This message is brought to you from you're on the scene reporter - Dick Marshall

NOTES FROM THE BAND - THE Post 48 Band is already scheduled to participate in the Manchester St Patrick's Day Parade and also the Danville St. Patrick's Day Parade. This early scheduling is due to the fact the Band is highly thought of. Parades are well attended by members of the Post Band. Bandmaster, George Rowe, has announced there are openings in the band for a few good people! If you play an instrument, you are welcomed to come down and sign up.

NOTES FROM THE FIRING SQUAD - The Firing Squad lost a very valuable member and friend, Sergeant-Major Ernest R. Leveille. Ernie was a long and valued member of the Firing Squad. He provided us with knowledge of the past and hope for the future. Ernie was extremely proud of the jacket he received at a special gathering at his home to honor him. The Firing Squad was honored to be able to stand guard of his casket during his wake. The Legion held a service for him with Mike Mondoux and Chief Moore both giving prayer. 14 members of the Firing Squad were in attendance to provide pall bearers, a 21 gun salute and Flag presentation to the family. The firing squad returned to the post, as tradition has it, to pay tribute to Ernie with a toast.

"To Ernie- Our brother and mentor, you will be sadly missed!"

On December 3rd 2005, the Post celebrated Pearl Harbor Day! Although the snow came down the ceremony was held indoors. The breakfast was great! We were treated to our traditionally wonderful breakfast. The Cooks: Tom Abbott, Gerry Belanger with his SOS, Bill Leblanc. The assistants Jackie and Jen Madison, Joann Mathews, Valerie Harnadek, Mike Mondoux, Ken Jackson and so many others - If I failed to mention you I am so, so sorry and I thank you for helping out! The ceremony was very well attended; we had our newest member, a Pearl Harbor survivor, Tom Conlon. Tom was introduced to the audience and given a standing ovation. I was extremely pleased so see the JR ROTC; they had a record number in attendance. The Department Chaplain was here and Commander Pete (Knobby) Ledoux presided, Master of Ceremonies was Ken Jackson. All in all it was wonderful that we could celebrate with many people in attendance and many color guards including our own Unit 48 color guard.

Auxiliary News

The Auxiliary is trying to revitalize the Unit. We are currently working on our Constitution and Bylaws. Having by-laws in place will ensure meetings go smoother. If you have not been to a meeting lately, please stop by on the 1st Monday of every month at 7pm. We are looking for new ideas, fresh ideas, and new faces to help us achieve this. The Auxiliary was founded to help our Veterans, our community and our children. If you have any ideas on how we can better ourselves, come to a meeting and share your knowledge, ideas and yourself. All members and ideas are welcomed.

Baseball News

Our motto is "Commitment to Excellence"; your Post 48 baseball organization continues to strive to be one of the best Legion baseball programs in New Hampshire. They have made the State Tournament thirteen our of the past sixteen years, making it to the state finals in 1999 and 2000. This past season Post 48 had a record of 15 wins and 6 losses. Post 48 came in fourth in District B. Unfortunately, Post 48 lost two straight games in the state tournament and ended the season with an overall record of 20 wins and 11 losses. Everything this baseball team has achieved is owed to our coaching staff and their "Commitment to Excellence".

          Thank you staff members:
Manager - Rick Harvey, 9 years
Asst Mgr/3rd base coach - Peter Langlais, 7 years
Pitching Coach - Keith Bowen, 8 years
1st base coach - Bard Marques, 2 years

Former Post 48 player Derek Miller was signed to a professional baseball contract with the Milwaukee Brewers last summer. Derek is from Pelham, NH; he played for Post 48 then moved on to play college baseball at UVM. He is now in Class A playing in the South Atlantic League for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Another former Post 48 player, Kyle Jackson, is doing well in the Boston Red Sox system; Kyle has been promoted to Class AA playing in the Eastern League in Portland, ME. If everything goes well wee might see him at Fenway Park in a couple of years.

The 2005 baseball team consisted of 18 players and 14 of those players will be returning for the 2006 season. However, before we can play ball we have to pay the bills. There are two upcoming fundraisers planned for this winter; one on February 4th and March 18th both are meat raffles. More information will be available at the post, please plan to attend.

Letter from a concerned Legion Family Member
A CALL TO ARMS! (So to speak)

Dear Legionnaire,
Your Post needs you! You are a member of the American Legion and YOUR Post #48 because you stood shoulder to shoulder with your fellow veterans in defense of our America and our American values. Your Post needs you today The American Legion is the voice of our military men and women, past and present. The Legion speaks for those who can not speak for themselves. Fellow Legionaries, our Post is under attack from complacency, indecision and a well intentioned but misguided absence of membership participation. YOU are needed to give our Post a voice again. Stand up and be counted; be the voice of our men and woman who have served and continue to serve to keep all Americans free. In addition to being an advocate for veterans, your post is also an exclusive social club that not just anyone can join. You had to have earned the right by serving your country. Your Post does a great deal for its members and the community but it can do more, much more. The canteen, commonly known as the "Foxhole", the children's Christmas party and the haunted house along with Legion Baseball are all just part of the services your Post provides. What would you like your Post to do for you and your family and for your community? What can you do to make your Post bigger and better able to serve all its members?

So, why not stand shoulder to shoulder with your fellow veterans again; contact the Post at 603.889.9777 or visit the Post website at www.hudsonpost48.org and offer your suggestions or a little bit of your time. Better still, check out the Post meeting held every the first Monday of every month in the main hall. It is your Post and you are missed and missing out on what it can do for you and your family. The next Post meeting will be at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday February 6, 2006. Your fellow members welcome your participation and hope to see you there.

REMEMBER: Check the Bulletin Boards for more events and information.
